Discontinued Merit badge

Discontinued merit badges, also know as "vintage merit badges" are those badges that the Boy Scouts of America no longer include in their current merit badge program. A merit badge can be discontinued because it is underutilized (i.e. only 10 scouts earned the Invention merit badge), outdated (i.e. blacksmithing) or to make room for a newly expanded offering. Often the skills covered are merged into new or updated merit badges( i.e. skiing became part of winter sports).

Scouts can continue to earn a merit badge once it is discontinued by meeting the most current requirements. However, the BSA does not provide updated merit badge pamphlets or actual badges. These need to be acquired on eBay or other source.

Please note: Every attempt is made to obtain the most recent requirements and sources and dates are provided. Please, contact your local council before attempting to teach or earn any of these merit badges.
