Honor Guard is an identification and service emblem, not an award.

Boy Scout Honor Guards are often used to add reverence, dignity and patriotism to events like baseball games, camporees, parades, inaugurations, funerals and more. The Honor Guard emblem identifies Boy Scouts who take on this important role.

The cloth emblem is an identification and service emblem, not an award. Boy Scouts who are members of an Honor Guard for a troop, council, or camp honor guard may wear this patch at any time, even if they are not serving an Honor Guard role at that exact moment. There is no need to remove this patch when attending a troop event that does not require Honor Guard services.

As is the case with the Musician patch/role, serving in the Honor Guard does not count as a position of responsibility needed for advancement.

Because the emblem goes on the right sleeve, a Boy Scout can wear his Honor Guard emblem and his regular position of responsibility patch simultaneously.

This emblem is worn on the right sleeve, either 1/2" under the patrol emblem (leaving room for a patrol star) or right under (and touching) the Journey to Excellence award or the Amateur Radio Operator Rating Strip emblem.
