1890's

1899 - Baden-Powell launches the Scouting movement by hosting a camp at Brownsea Island near England's southern coast.

Scouting for Boys, Baden-Powell's book of activities for young people, promotes the creation of Scout patrols throughout England.

1900's

1909 - A British Boy Scout helps American businessman William D. Boyce find his way on a foggy London street, sparking Boyce's interest in bringing Scouting to the United States.

1910's

1910 - The Boy Scouts of America is founded.

The original edition of the Boy Scout Handbook is published.

1911 - The first edition of the Boy Scout Handbook is published.

James E. West becomes the first Chief Scout Executive for the BSA.

1912 - Arthur Eldred becomes the first Eagle Scout.

1914 - The second edition of the Boy Scout Handbook is published.

1915 - The Order of the Arrow is founded at Treasure Island Scout Camp of the Philadelphia Council by E. Urner Goodman and Carroll A. Edson.

E. Urner Goodman becomes the first Vigil Honor member of the OA.

1920's

1920 - First World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Olympia, London, England.

1924 - Second World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Ermelunden, Copenhagen, Denmark.

1927 - The third edition of the Boy Scout Handbook is published.

1929 - Third World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Arrowe Park, Birkenhead, England.

1930's

1933 - Fourth World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Gödöllö, Hungary.

1937 - Fifth World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Vogelensang-Bloemendaal, Netherlands.

1940's

1940 - The fourth edition of the Boy Scout Handbook is published.

1941 - Baden-Powell dies in Kenya at age 83.

1943 - Elbert K. Fretwell becomes the second Chief Scout Executive for the BSA.

1947 - Sixth World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Moisson, France.

1948 - The fifth edition of the Boy Scout Handbook is published.

Arthur Schuck becomes the third Chief Scout Executive for the BSA.

1950's

1951 - Seventh World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Salzkammergut, Bad Ischl, Austria.

1955 - Eighth World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada.

1957 - Ninth World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Sutton Park, England.

1959 - The sixth edition of the Boy Scout Handbook is published.

Tenth World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Mount Makiling, Philippines.

1960's

1960 - Joseph A. Brunton, Jr. becomes the fourth Chief Scout Executive for the BSA.

1963 - Eleventh World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Marathon, Greece.

1965 - The seventh edition of the Boy Scout Handbook is published.

1967 - Twelfth World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Farragut State Park, Idaho, United States.

Alden G. Barber becomes the fifth Chief Scout Executive for the BSA.

1970's

1971 - Thirteenth World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Asagiri Heights, Japan.

1972 - The eighth edition of the Boy Scout Handbook is published.

1975 - Fourteenth World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Lake Mjosa Lillehammer, Norway.

1976 - Harvey L. Price becomes the sixth Chief Scout Executive for the BSA.

1979 - The ninth edition of the Boy Scout Handbook is published.

James L. Tarr becomes the seventh Chief Scout Executive for the BSA.

1980's

1983 - Fifteenth World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Kananaskis Country, Alberta, Canada.

1985 - Ben H. Love becomes the eighth Chief Scout Executive for the BSA.

1987-88 - Sixteenth World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Cataract Scout Park, New South Wales, Australia.

1990's

1990 - The tenth edition of the Boy Scout Handbook is published.

1991 - Seventeenth World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Mount Sorak National Park, South Korea.

1993 - Jere B. Ratcliffe becomes the ninth Chief Scout Executive for the BSA.

1995 - Eighteenth World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Flevoland, Netherlands.

1998 - The eleventh edition of the Boy Scout Handbook is published.

1998-99 - Nineteenth World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Picarquin, Chile.

2000's

2000 - Roy Williams becomes the tenth Chief Scout Executive for the BSA.

2002-03 - Twentieth World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Sattahip, Thailand.

2007 - Bob Mazzuca becomes the eleventh Chief Scout Executive for the BSA.

2007-08 - Twenty-first World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Hylands Park, Chelmsford, England.

2010's

2010 - The Boy Scouts of America celebrates its 100th Year Anniversary.

The twelfth edition of the Boy Scout Handbook is published.

2011 - Twenty-second World Scout Jamboree is hosted in Rinkaby, Sweden.

2012 - The Eagle Scout Award celebrates its 100th Year Anniversary.

Wayne Brock will become the twelfth Chief Scout Executive for the BSA.

2015 - The Order of the Arrow will celebrate its 100th Year Anniversary.

Twenty-third World Scout Jamboree is to be hosted in Kirara Beach, Yamaguchi, Japan.

2019 - Twenty-fourth World Scout Jamboree is to be hosted at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve, West Virginia, United States.
