The Amateur Radio Service is a voluntary, non-commercial, communication service; it may be used by qualified persons of any age who are interested in radio technique with a personal aim and without pecuniary interest.

Amateur Radio Operator Rating Strip requirements

  1. Be a registered youth or adult member with a valid amateur radio license, of any class, issued by the Federal Communications Commission.

Notes

A General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) license is not an Amateur Radio Service license and does not fulfill the requirement for this award. Only current Technician-, Technician Plus-, General-, and Extra-class (including, any grandfathered Novice- and Advanced-class) Amateur Radio Service licensees are valid.
