Forestry is one of the elective merit badges for the William T. Hornaday awards for Boy Scouts and Varsity Scouts. The Forestry merit badge was one of the original 57 merit badges issued by the Boy Scouts of America in 1911.

- Per the BSA: "You should read the merit badge pamphlet on the subject." Pamphlets (books) are at local Scout Shops and online at ScoutStuff.org.

- This badge is one of the merit badges required to earn one of the William T. Hornaday Awards for Boy Scouts.
- Requirement 1 is identical to requirement 4g of the Nature merit badge.
