August 2017

  • New Whitewater Rafting BSA award, and the older BSA Stand Up Paddleboarding‎ and BSA Complete Angler‎ awards added.
  • Scuba BSA removed the following requirements: a) In shallow water, breathe underwater for at least 30 seconds from an alternate air source supplied by the instructor, b) Demonstrate the techniques for a proper ascent. And instead added: Describe how to avoid hazardous aquatic life (if applicable to your confined water location).
  • Eagle Palms have the "three month" timer temporarily eliminated when a youth becomes an Eagle, but it remains thereafter. (Normally there was always a three month timer for each palm. However, if a youth has earned enough extra merit badges beyond those required for Eagle to qualify for a palm(s), when Eagle is awarded, that palm(s) may be awarded immediately. For instance, if a youth has earned 26 merit badges when Eagle is awarded, they get Eagle and one palm, then there's a 3-month wait for each following palm. If a youth has earned 71 merit badges when Eagle is awarded, they get Eagle and 10 palms, then there's a 3-month wait for each following palm earned.)
  • BSA Lifeguard‎ was clarified to only last for two years now, not three.
  • Some workbooks have been updated.

May 2017

Starting in 2018, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (sometimes called Mormons), will no longer sponsor any Varsity crews or Venturing troops.

April 2017

No more Tour Permits or Tour Plans required. They're a great idea, highly recommended, but no longer required.

1 January 2017

All Boy Scouts, regardless of rank or progress in rank, must now use the current requirements (that came out a year ago on 1 Jan 2016). Boy Scouts had the previous year to finish up whatever rank they were working on, and all Boy Scouts now get to use the current requirements (they could have used them earlier if desired, but all must now use the current requirements). The Boy Scout rank requirements have been updated with the current requirements.

Arrow of Light requirements also updated to the current (new) requirements -- all boys who could have used the old requirements should have aged out by now. Also, Wolf/Bear/Webelos/AoL main requirements edited to say that they're using the new requirements (which were effective immediately) from the program modifications document, rather than a published book.
