Meritbadge.org has now become an official part of the US Scouting Service Project, Inc.

May 2018

The Boy Scouts of America is officially changing the name of its "older youth program" (older than Cub Scouts -- the "Boy Scouts" program) to "Scouts BSA" -- see the news release https://www.scoutingnewsroom.org/press-releases/scout-me-in/ The name change will go into effect Feb 2019. It is unclear whether this name change includes Venturing.

May 8 2018, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the LDS church, sometimes called Mormons), announced that it will cease sponsoring Scouting units effective Dec 31, 2019.

May 18, 2018, an update to the Guide to Safe Scouting was published.

National has said that, "The National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America has confirmed a scheduled February 1, 2019 launch date for the program to serve girls, ages 11-17. This timing is intended to align with the programmatic timeline so that girls who join Cub Scouts in 2018 and will have earned their Arrow of Light are able to cross over to a troop to continue their Scouting journey." Other information about the Family Scouting program is given at that link and at https://www.scouting.org/familyscouting/.

Feb 2018

According to Bryan on Scouting, this fall the Lion program will move from a pilot program to an official part of Cub Scouts.

May 2017 mentioned that starting in 2018, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the LDS church, sometimes called Mormons), would no longer sponsor any Varsity teams or Venturing crews. Since the LDS church was the group that created Varsity and was basically the only group using that program, it has since been removed as a program. Medals/awards/patches will continue to be available to earn until they are no longer available in a local or national Scout shop.
