If you find one of these templates placed on your User page, please read it... then, delete it; this will signify that you've read it and will comply. Also, just because it's classified as "warning," don't fret. All such User ''warnings'', ''cautions'' and ''notices'' are categorized as warnings. Even so, you really don't want to get more than a couple of these.

User Notices, Cautions and Warnings

Wikipedia employs a daunting variety and number of levels of User notices and warnings. (See: Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace.)

Conversely, our need for such notices, cautions and warnings, is much, much more simplified. (Well, at least comparatively. More may be created as necessity may require.)

NOTE: All User Notices, Cautions and Warnings are categorized under Category:Warnings. So, just because it's categorized under Category:Warnings, that does not necessarily means it's bad. (See: User warnings for details.)

Contents

Level 1

All "Level 1" User warning templates are placed on the user's talk page.

If you find a Level 1 User warning template has been placed on your User talk page, here's what to do:

  • Once you have read and understand it...
  • if you intend to comply, simply remove it from your talk page. (This will signify your understanding and intent to comply.) Then, go back and look for and review any of your recent "contributions" that were "reverted", "rolled-back" or, possibly, just re-edited (due to your edit).
  • if you cannot or do not intend to comply, simply do nothing. (This will signify you cannot or will not comply.) Then, send a request for account deletion to a Bureaucrat explaining why.

With that being said, you really don't want to get more than a couple of these, because... even though we really, really want users to contribute to this wiki, we expect you to take it upon yourself to read and understand our policies, guidelines and, if necessary, help pages, before editing/posting.

User warning: Chat (Level 1)

{{Uw-chat1}} — For minor, (and also, probably unintended) use of talk pages for chatting, etc.

User warning: Edit summary (Level 1)

{{Uw-editsummary}} — For failing to provide an edit summary when submitting/committing any edit.

User warning: Vandalism (Level 1)

{{Uw-vandal1}} — For minor, silly or harmless (and, probably unintended) vandalism. (Note, however, real vandals/spammers don't get any warning; they just get banned.)

User warning: YPT-IS-PII (Level 1)

{{Uw-ypt1}} — For minor violation of BSA's and/or MeritBadgeDotOrg's youth protection, internet safety, and/or personally identifiable information policies and/or guidelines.

Level 2

Level 3

Level 4

All "Level 0" User warning templates are placed on the user page — not the user's talk page. Additionally, the User's page is blanked and the user's page and talk page are both edit-protected by an administrator.

Profane, disrespectful, abusive, or otherwise inappropriate editing will cause a user to be blocked (or "banned") by an administrator, with or without prior warning; it is almost always permanent; and, it merely specifies the reason why. (In other words, "Level 0" User warning templates are more or an administrative reporting tool, rather than an actual warning to the user.)

User warning: Vandalism (Level 0)

{{Uw-vandal0}} — Self-explanatory.

User warning: YPT-IS-PII (Level 0)

{{Uw-ypt0}} — For serious, even if unintentional, violation of BSA's and/or MeritBadgeDotOrg's youth protection, internet safety, and/or personally identifiable information policies and/or guidelines.
