According to http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/OutdoorProgram/OutdoorEthics/Awards.aspx the version of this award "for Cub Scouts and leaders" was retired in June 2016. This was clarified to mean "Cub Scouts and Cub Scout leaders". Boy Scouting, Venturing, and Sea Scouting leaders may continue to earn this award.

The Outdoor Ethics Awareness Award is designed to introduce awareness of Outdoor Ethics by learning about Outdoor Ethics, Leave No Trace, and Tread Lightly!.


Outdoor Ethics Awareness Award requirements

Boy Scouts, Boy Scouting Leaders, Venturers, and Venturing Leaders

  1. Recite from memory and explain the meaning of the Outdoor Code.
  2. Watch the National Park Service Leave No Trace video.
  3. Complete the Leave No Trace online youth course. Print the certificate.
  4. Earn the Tread Lightly! online course certificate. Print the certificate when you are done.
  5. Participate in an outdoor ethics course, workshop, or training activity facilitated by a person who has completed the BSA Leave No Trace 101 course or the BSA outdoor ethics orientation course OR by a BSA outdoor ethics trainer or master who has completed one of the following: the Leave No Trace Master Educator course, the Leave No Trace Trainer course, the Tread Lightly! Master Tread Trainer course, or the Tread Lightly! Tread Trainer course.
