Effective January 1, 2010, serving as Outdoor Ethics Guide can apply towards Positions of Responsibility requirements for Star, Life and Eagle ranks.

Leave No Trace Trainer
Selected by:Senior Patrol Leader or
Varsity Team Captain
Reports to:Assistant Senior Patrol Leader or
Varsity Team Captain

The Leave No Trace Trainer specializes in teaching Leave No Trace principles and ensures that the troop follows the principles of Leave No Trace on all outings such as camping and other outdoor activities.

He can also help Scouts earn the Leave No Trace award.

He should have a thorough understanding of and commitment to Leave No Trace. Ideally, he should have completed Leave No Trace training as well as earned both the Camping and Environmental Science merit badges.

Effective January 1, 2010, Leave No Trace Trainer is added to the list of positions of responsibility that a Boy Scout or a Varsity Scout may use to fulfill the position of responsibility requirements for Star, Life, and Eagle Scout (the omission from Eagle Scout in the new Boy Scout Handbook is a typographical error). A Boy Scout, Varsity Scout, or Venturer may take any 16-hour Leave No Trace Trainer course from a Leave No Trace Master Educator to qualify for the troop, team, or crew position of responsibility.
