Here are knots for the Boy Scout Small-Boat Sailing merit badge as well as Sea Scout Able, Apprentice and Ordinary ranks. The square knot, bowline, clove hitch, two half hitches, and figure eight are included in the Boy Scout Knots page.
Bowline on a Bight

The bowline on a bight is a rescue knot with two loops to support a person.
- Required for
- Sea Scout Ordinary #:7. Overhand Knot - Stevedore's Knot - Bowline on a Bight - Timber Hitch - Rolling Hitch - Marline Hitch - Midshipman's Hitch - Double Bowline
- Instructions
Start the bowline on a bight by tying a bowline using a loop (bight) instead of a single rope. Make the overhand loop as normal and bring the bight through and around the entire knot and tighten securely before putting weight on it.
The Bowline on a Bight is one of the Forty knots.
