Current revision
A squad is an optional youth member sub-group of a Varsity Scout team. A squad is lead by an elected Squad Leader. One or more squads may make up a larger team.
Structure
Larger Varsity Scout teams may be divided into squads, groups much like a Boy Scout Patrol. Squads function most efficiently when they have five to seven members.
With the guidance of adults, squad members work together to plan a balanced program of team activities. While squads may sometimes develop activities of there own, there primary efforts are to combine activities with other squads and the team as a whole.
Similar Groups
A Squad is a grouping of youth within a unit. Similar groups in other Scouting units are:
- A Cub Scout Den elects a Denner who assists the Den Leader. Unlike a Boy Scout patrol, which is boy-led, the Den Leader plans and conducts meetings and activities.
- Patrol - Boy Scouting
- Squad - Varsity Scouting
- Crew - Sea Scouting
