Position description
The key adult leader of a Varsity Scout team is the Coach. Sometimes in the middle of activities, but more often from the sidelines, the Coach tries very hard to make it possible for Varsity Scouts to work together as effective team players who live according to the principles of Scouting. The chartered organization must give careful thought to the responsiblities of a Varsity Scout Coach and select candidate who will do his or her best to fulfill these obligations.

Responsibilities
- Trains and guides Varsity Scout youth leaders to run their teams.
- Involves the parents of team members to maximize the effectiveness of Varsity Scouting.
- Attends all team meetings and activities.
- Guides team leaders in planning the program.
- Conducts Coaches Conferences for rank advancement with each Varsity Scout.
- Meets and works with the Team Committee.
- Helps recruit Assistant Team Coaches.
- Takes advantage of available training opportunities.
- Attends Varsity huddles (roundtables) to share ideas with other Coaches in the district and council.
- Maintains the principles and rules of the Boy Scouts of America.
- Wears the Scout uniform correctly.
- Uses the methods of Scouting to achieve the aims of Scouting.
- Can be male or female, but must be at least 21 years of age.
- Is appointed by the head of the chartered organization.
