A [[Varsity Scout]] advances through performing leadership positions of responsibilities, planning and participating in the team program areas of emphasis, Boy Scout rank advancement, and earning Varsity Scout-specific awards. Any young man from 14 to 18 years old may participate in this program for older Boy Scouts.

The Varsity Scout letter V-emblem is awarded to team members who participate high-adventure or sports program features and are preceded by training or practice sessions.
