Current revision
Started in 1952 as a way to recognize unit longevity and commitment to the Scouting Movement, the Veteran Unit Emblem (or Bar) is awarded to any unit with 25 years of active service.
The program has seen several changes, the last being in 2000 when every fifth year between 25 and 95 (and later 100) years being recognized with its own patch. The patch is worn between the council patch and the unit numbers on the left shoulder.
