Scouter's Key Knot

The Scouter's Key is a set of recognitions for primary leaders who meet who complete advanced tenure, training and performance requirements in one (or more) of the following positions:

  • Cub Scout Cubmaster
  • Boy Scout Scoutmaster
  • Varsity Scout Coach
  • Venturing Advisor
  • Sea Scout Skipper
  • Roundtable commissioner
  • District/Assistant District commissioner
  • Unit commissioner
  • District committee chair (chair of one of the operating committees)


Scouter's Key requirements

 

Cub Scout Cubmaster

Tenure

  • Within a five-year period, complete at least three years of registered tenure as a Cubmaster or one year as a registered assistant Cubmaster plus two years as a registered Cubmaster. (This can include the tenure used to earn the Scouter's Training Award.)

Training

  • Complete basic training for Cubmasters.
  • Attend a pow wow or university of Scouting (or equivalent), or attend at least four roundtables (or equivalent) during each year of the tenure used for this award.

Performance
Do the following during the tenure used for this award:

  • Achieve at least the Silver level of Journey to Excellence for at least two years. The Quality Unit Award was acceptable if the tenure used was prior to 2011.
  • Earn the National Summertime Pack Award at least once.
  • Conduct an annual pack planning session and have a published pack meeting/activity schedule for the pack’s parents in each year.
  • Participate in at least one additional supplemental or advanced training event at the council, area, region, or national level.

Boy Scout Scoutmaster

Tenure

  • Complete at least three years of registered tenure as a Scoutmaster within a five-year period. (This can include the tenure used to earn the Scouter's Training Award.)

Training

  • Complete basic training for Scoutmasters.
  • Attend a university of Scouting (or equivalent), or attend at least four roundtables (or equivalent) during each year of the tenure used for this award.

Performance
Do the following during the tenure used for this award:

  • Achieve at least the Silver level of Journey to Excellence for at least two years. The Quality Unit Award was acceptable if the tenure used was prior to 2011.
  • Earn the National Outdoor Challenge Award at least once.
  • Conduct an annual troop planning session and have a published troop meeting/activity schedule for the troop’s parents in each year.
  • Participate in at least one additional supplemental or advanced training event at the council, area, region, or national level.

Venturing Crew Advisor

Tenure

  • Complete at least three years of registered tenure as a Venturing Crew Advisor within a five-year period. (This can include the tenure used to earn the Scouter's Training Award.)

Training

  • Complete basic training for Advisors.
  • Attend a university of Scouting (or equivalent), or attend at least four roundtables/teen leaders’ councils/Venturing officers association meetings (or equivalent) during each year of the tenure used for this award.

Performance
Do the following during the tenure used for this award:

  • Achieve at least the Silver level of Journey to Excellence for at least two years. The Quality Unit Award was acceptable if the tenure used was prior to 2011.
  • Have an annual crew planning session and have a published crew meeting/activity schedule for the crew in each year.
  • Participate in at least one additional supplemental or advanced training event at the council, area, region, or national level.

Sea Scout Skipper

Tenure

  • Complete at least three years of registered tenure as a Sea Scout Skipper within a five-year period. (This can include the tenure used to earn the Scouter's Training Award.)

Training

Performance
Do the following during the tenure used for this award:

  • Achieve at least the Silver level of Journey to Excellence for at least two years.
  • Conduct annual quarterdeck training and have a published meeting/activity schedule for the ship in each year.
  • Participate in at least one additional supplemental or advanced training event at the council, area, region, or national level.

Unit Commissioner

Prerequisites

Tenure

  • Within a 5 year period, complete 3 years as a registered unit commissioner.

Training

  • Participate in at least two of the following continuing education/supplemental training events:
    • College of Commissioner Science
    • Commissioner Conference
    • Commissioner Workshop
    • Commissioner Retreat
    • National training conference for commissioners
  • These may include one continuing education/supplemental training event used to satisfy an Arrowhead Honor requirement.

Performance

  1. Earn the Unit Commissioner Arrowhead Honor.
  2. Continue to provide the level of Unit Service begun by earning the Commissioner Arrowhead Honor throughout the remaining tenure for this award.

Roundtable/Assistant Roundtable Commissioner

Prerequisites

Tenure

  • Within a 5 year period, complete 3 years as a registered Roundtable commissioner or assistant Roundtable commissioner.

Training

  • Participate in at least two of the following continuing education/supplemental training events:
    • College of Commissioner Science
    • Commissioner Conference
    • Commissioner Workshop
    • Commissioner Retreat
    • National training conference for commissioners
  • These may include one continuing education/supplemental training event used to satisfy an Arrowhead Honor requirement.

  1. Earn the Commissioner Arrowhead Honor for your position (Roundtable commissioner or assistant Roundtable commissioner).

Assistant District/Council Commissioner -‐ Roundtable

Prerequisites

Tenure

  • Within a 5 year period, complete 3 years as a registered assistant district commissioner/assistant council commissioner ‐ Roundtable.

Training

  • Participate in at least two of the following continuing education/supplemental training events:
    • College of Commissioner Science
    • Commissioner Conference
    • Commissioner Workshop
    • Commissioner Retreat
    • National training conference for commissioners
  • These may include one continuing education/supplemental training event used to satisfy an Arrowhead Honor requirement.
